Nicknamed the Great Border City, Carlisle is the only city in Cumbria, located to the north of the county, eight miles from the Scottish Border.

Steeped in history, it has close access to not only the Lake District National Park, but the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Hadrians Wall World Heritage Site.

Early history of the city was as a Roman settlement, today it is the county town of Cumbria with a population exceeding 100,000.  It is home to the University of Cumbria and has a compact historical centre with a castle and cathedral just off the city centre, which is mainly pedestrianised offering an array of shopping and entertainment options.

Transport links are excellent, located to the northern end of the M6, the south end of the M74 into Scotland and the A69 to the east.  Carlisle Train Station is also on the west coast main line.
