A market town to the east of Carlisle, historically an Anglican settlement close to Hadrian’s Wall.

Today, this is an excellent commuter town with great transport links both by road and rail. The town
is just off the A69, so getting east to Newcastle is straight forward and this also links well with the
M6.

Its population exceeds 4,000, with a bustling town centre full of history and a marketplace of
independent retailers. Willam Howard School serves a large catchment area beyond the town itself,
including the sought after neighbouring villages of Wetheral, Hayton & Talkin.

Outside of the town the rolling countryside of the Irthing Valley and Geltsdale makes for perfect
walking and cycling country, leading up to the rugged beauty of the North Pennines National Park.

The centre of the town retains much of its historical character and with the renovation of the Market Place, it now has an artistic and cultural focus.

Transport links are provided by the A66 to the east and west and the A595 north to Carlisle and west to Workington.
